Allen Family Garden
The Allen’s came to us looking to transform an outdoor space with something a little different to the standard patio look – something with more texture to keep with the current theme of the garden.
In the end after initially considering multiple porcelain options for this project, ranging from some deeper grey tones to some silver and cream options. The decision was made that the outside patio area was to be completed in our Jordan limestone. The first question to ask for this job was the current condition of the area that we were aiming to lay the tiles on, as any tile under around the 20mm thickness mark we do not recommend laying on raw/uneven ground, as the pressure can cause the tile to crack or weaken. Fortunately, however, Mr Allen had already laid a smooth concrete base in the area in which the tiles were to be laid. This widened our options enormously as with a concrete base the issue of having a minimum thickness is removed, since the flat surface of the concrete allows the pressure to be spread consistently and evenly.
Whilst it is not unusual for limestone tiles to be used as outdoor tiles/patio settings, it is commonly tiles with more rugged properties, such as a tumbled edge and 20mm thickness, so initially when Jordan was proposed as a potential favourite, we were somewhat apprehensive! As we have never seen Jordan used in this context prior to this project. Jordan is a light beige/white limestone tile featuring subtle brown and cream markings, and fossilisations. Imported directly from the Quarry in the transcontinental Republic of Turkey, the fossils found in the tiles presumably come from a combination of the three different bodies of water that surround Turkey, these being the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Aegean Sea, meaning that the scope of variety in patterning and fossil types is incredible wide and each tile is unique!
As you can see from the images below, the result of this project surpassed all of our expectations! The light, creamy tones of these Limestone tiles really elevates the overall feel of the garden, giving it a bright, inviting energy, and contrasting nicely with the darker foliage!
This project was truly a pleasure to be involved in and we were both shocked and overjoyed with how it turned out! Always a pleasure to see our customer’s visions brought to life!
